So it was only San Marino and a 7-0 scoreline perhaps was to be expected playing in Bratislava. Nevertheless, at times Slovakia were sublime on Saturday and the win puts them 3 points clear at the top of Group 3 with a game in hand over their nearest rivals, Northern Ireland.
From this position, Slovakia should definitely finish in the Top 2 from this group and will be disappointed if they don’t finish top. The next match is not until September, which will be at home to their Czech neighbours. A win then would make a place in the 2010 World Cup finals almost a formality.
