The afternoon of May 1st was spent in Dolny Kubin, which is an absolutely delightful town in Orava, in Northern Slovakia.
Set in a valley and with stunning views of the mountains from every part of town, Dolny Kubin is a great example of a Slovak town that has undergone a complete face-lift over the past 5 years.
The town boasts two ski centres, a museum, an art gallery, an aviary and its wooden bridge, which spans the river Orava.
We spent the afternoon walking around the town and ended up at one of the restaurant terraces on the banks of the river, where we had a meal.
Then in the evening we watched an outside folk rock concert, at the Mini Oravia, a small pub just off the main square.
It was gone 9pm by the time we made our way to our accommodation for the next few days, the Chalupa Ria in the nearby village of Zazriva.
